Part 1
Part 1 is the entry-level examination accessible to doctors with a minimum of 12 months’ postgraduate experience in medical employment. It covers a broad range of topics to ensure the level of knowledge is appropriate to physicians at the beginning of postgraduate training.

Part 2
The MRCP (UK) Part 2 Written Examination can be taken by physicians in training who have passed the MRCP(UK) Part 1 Examination. It builds on the knowledge assessed in Part 1 and tests the acquisition of a representative sample of medical knowledge, skills and behavior as specified in the UK

PACES
The MRCP(UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills – PACES) is designed to test the clinical knowledge and skills of trainee doctors who hope to enter higher specialist training (ST3). Trainees must have passed the Part 1 written examination within the last 7 years before taking PACES. The exam sets rigorous standards to ensure that trainees are competent across a range of skills and ready to provide a high standard of care to patients.
